Carry-on Essentials to Make Traveling Easier

Updated: Sep 24

ree

If you know me, you know I'm always traveling somewhere. I’ve completed 22 flights already this year, and it’s only September. That being said, I would consider myself a master of packing, and today I'm starting with my carry-on essentials. I’ve learned tips and tricks over the years to make traveling easier and less stressful when it comes to carry-on travel. I’ll be sharing advice and also affiliate links to products that make traveling easier.

A Good Roller Bag and Personal Item

Investing in a good roller bag is key when traveling with only a carry-on. I love my Away bigger carry-on because it provides separate packing compartments and comes with a laundry bag and portable charger. I do pack an additional laundry bag when travel exceeds 3 days or clothing items are larger. For my personal item, or under-the-seat bag, I love this weekender bag from Amazon. It comes in two different sizes and 17 different colors. It has a separate compartment for shoes and a strap to perfectly rest on any roller luggage for easier transport. The best part is the bag comes in under $40. Derek has an incredible travel backpack that is perfect for men. I've linked it here for you as well!

Compression Packing Cubes

I don’t know how I traveled so long without compression packing cubes. These have been a complete game changer for packing more clothing and maximizing space.

Clear Cosmetics Bags

When it comes to the necessities every woman needs: makeup, skincare, hair products, feminine products, jewelry, etc., the key is dedicated containers. I purchased these clear cubes earlier this year and stocked them with mini versions of my necessities. Keeping them organized is critical! All my inflight skincare is in one: moisturizer, the Summer Fridays jet lag mask, a face mask for long flights when my skin needs extra hydration, eye makeup remover, hair ties, toothbrush, etc., all nicely organized in clear containers. These are nothing fancy, but it’s much easier to stay organized. These are also great when traveling long-haul and connecting in LHR. They have one of the most strict TSA guidelines out of any country, and I can take my bags easily out of my carry-on and not have to redistribute my liquids into their bags. I also love this large case for all my makeup and brushes.

Magnesium Packets

When it comes to sleep, I always use the Moon Juice Magnesium powder and I love that they have travel packets! You can mix these with hot or cold water, your preference, and enjoy every night during your travels.

Kindle

I’m not sure if you would believe me when I say that the TV does not go on during a flight anymore thanks to my Kindle. Even on our 11-hour honeymoon flight, if I wasn’t sleeping, I was reading. I love being able to load up on books and magazines while taking up minimal space.

Over-the-ear Noise Cancelling Headphones

As much as I love my AirPods, when I'm on a flight, I want to drown out as much noise as possible, especially if I am trying to sleep. These JBL headphones are more conducive to reducing background noise for a more enjoyable journey.

Water Bottle

A water bottle is one of the most necessary carry-on items in my eyes. There are several collapsible options to choose from depending on what fits your budget. I like this one and this one the best because they are smaller. I will never fly without my own water. I also bring electrolytes with me because flying can be dehydrating. Both LMNT and Waterboy have packets easy to travel with.

Eye Mask

Creating a serene environment to be able to sleep is key. I love both of these eye masks. This set is perfect if you’re on a budget, and you can throw one in all of your bags. For a more luxurious experience, this one is great!

Travel Cable Organizer

I love having all of my cables in one place along with my power banks. I know where everything is and can access it easier in the dark. This small organizer is the perfect size for individual needs.

Phone Holder

Considering many airlines no longer have tv's on all their seats, a phone holder can come in handy. Here are a few I like: magnetic holder, flexible flap holder, standard clip holder.

Scarf for Warmth

Having a good pashmina or scarf is helpful to combat the ever changing temperatures in the air. These are two great options that are quality pieces without breaking the bank: cashmere and wool.

Flying should be an enjoyable experience. Try these carry-on only travel essentials and let me know how you feel on your next flight!
